are situated in the heart of rural Devon’s Tarka-the-Otter
country. They are about 3 miles and 1½ miles respectively from the country town of
Great Torrington, where shops, pubs, restaurants, a public indoor swimming pool, tennis
courts, sports hall, etc can be found. The beaches of the North Devon coast are less than
half an hour’s drive away, and the moorland areas of Exmoor and Dartmoor are within
easy reach. There are nearby facilities for golf, horse riding, sailing, fishing, shooting
and cycle hire.
The picturesque and secluded locations of Stowford Lodge and South Hill Cottages give the perfect base for a leisurely and
peaceful country holiday, with many coastal, woodland and moorland walks in the
surrounding area, and many local places of interest to visit. The Tarka Trail long
distance footpath and cycle way passes nearby and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor are less
than two miles away.

We are a friendly, family run business, and our cottages have
been popular with visitors since we started holiday lets in 1989. We are open all year
round. Our cottages are inspected annually by the English Tourism Council and are rated three stars.
The Cottages
All cottages are fully equipped with modern kitchens and
bathrooms, hot water is by electric heating and there are electric showers over the baths.
Each cottage has a colour TV. Each kitchen is provided with an electric cooker, microwave
and refrigerator. Living rooms and bedrooms are fully carpeted, and heating is by wall
mounted electric fan/convector heaters, with electric blankets for the beds. Electricity
is charged at cost based on meter readings. In addition, South
Hill Cottages each have a night storage heater (free of charge) and an open
log fire in the living room. Barbecues are available for the use of visitors.
Bed linen - sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases are provided. A
baby’s cot (no linen) and high chair can be provided on request. Towels are available
on request for an extra charge of £2 per week per person (one bath towel and one hand
towel). Cleaning materials are provided in the cottages.
For Stowford Lodge use of additional deep freeze capacity,
washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities are available in the laundry of the
main house. (A small charge is made for use of the laundry facilities). A payphone is
available at Stowford Lodge for outgoing calls.
South Hill Cottages each have their
own deep freeze, washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities.
Stowford Lodge Holiday Cottages
The cottages at Stowford Lodge have been
sympathetically converted from Victorian stone farm buildings grouped around a gravelled
courtyard. A wealth of original features have been retained, and generous use has been
made of natural wood finishing, with exposed beams and high ceilings.

Warren Cottage Ground floor, single storey cottage, sleeps up to six. Located on the east
side of the courtyard, with rear access to the orchard area from the living room and one
of the bedrooms. Three bedrooms - one double and two twin bedded rooms. Living room with
kitchen area, bathroom.
Halcyon Cottage
Ground floor, single storey cottage, sleeps up to
four. Located on the north side of the courtyard, with rear access to the orchard area
from the living room. Two bedrooms - one double and one twin bedded room. Living room,
separate kitchen and bathroom.
Tarquol Cottage
Ground floor, single storey cottage, sleeps up to
four. Located on the north side of the courtyard, with rear access to the orchard area
from one of the bedrooms. Two bedrooms - one double and one twin bedded room. Living room
with kitchen area, bathroom.
Old Nog Cottage
Two storey cottage, sleeps up to four. Located on the east side
of the courtyard, with access from the archway. Living room with kitchen area downstairs.
Upstairs to two bedrooms - one double and one twin bedded room and bathroom.
